The latest version of Allies

As of a few hours, there is a brand new version of Allies available in both the App Store and Google Play. It's kind of a big deal for us, as we have been working on it for about two months, and I thought I'd share a little something about our thinking for it.

The apparent goal of Allie is simple - to collects the details you need to keep track of your kids lives in one place. This, rather than having them spread out across several channels, as life is for most people today.

For this, there is the Timeline.

The second goal of Allies is to connect your kid's lives with yours. In other words, making it possible for you to store the details of their lives - the to-dos- the where's, the when's, the what’s, the due dates - where you keep the rest of yours; your calendar and your Reminders.

For this, there is the option to add events from Allies to your phone's calendar and Reminder.

We expected most of our users to appreciate this kind of thinking, and we were right - they do. Every day, hundreds and hundreds of fo events are being swiped from Allies into our users' phones all around the world.

However, we did not expect them to use Allies to communicate as much as they do.

Our initial reasoning was "why compete with way more effective and glitch-free chat services when our aim is to store everyone’s details in one place?" Well. We admit it. We were wrong.

People are creatures of habit and expect a chat to work the way they are used to. And since we have no problem admitting when we are wrong, we decided to right that wrong rather than sulk about it. Also, while at it, we wanted to impress you.

For that, there is the document service.

You know those PDFs from school? The Word files, the odd PPT, all those intermittent Exel files that you tend to receive at the beginning of every school year? Well, we added those too. In fact, you can send just about any kind of file into Allies, into any group. It is stored on that groups' page, rather than sumped in an inbox, a thread, or a blog post somewhere.

We like to think this makes everyday life a little easier for everyone.
